Kumi is committed to being a responsible business. We are currently tracking data on carbon emissions and aim to reduce our carbon emissions where we can. We have identified air travel and office utilities (i.e. electricity and gas) are our two main areas of environmental impact. This data was collected over several years and analysed to give us a better understanding of our environmental performance and help to inform how we design our environmental strategy moving forwards.
Kumi commits to:
As a boutique professional services provider, Kumi’s material supply chain is limited to our office space and the digital technology we use, and we have limited leverage over our key suppliers. Therefore, investing in ‘insetting’ programmes that aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our supply chain is not the most effective approach to emissions reduction.
However, as we track and reduce our carbon footprint, we have explored appropriate ways to offset our carbon emissions through reliable and trustworthy schemes. We recognise the challenges and limitations associated with carbon offsetting schemes, and we have chosen to voluntarily offset our emissions with a focus on carbon avoidance. Due to Kumi’s size and profile, we have chosen to procure offsets from Atmosfair, a German non-profit organisation focused on high-quality programmes that offset unavoidable emissions, primarily air travel. Through Aatmosptmosfair’s ‘Rwanda cookstoves’ project (CDM Gold Standard certified), we are pleased to announce that we have offset 40 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (or CO₂e) for the year 2024.
Looking forward, we will continue to monitor Kumi’s operational emissions to review and update our strategy on an annual basis, offsetting our emissions accordingly.
