Kumi’s response to Sky News feature on cobalt mining in DRC

On tonight’s Sky News at 10 there was a headline feature on the child labour and community health impacts associated with certain elements of the cobalt supply chain in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This feature from Sky is the latest in a series of investigative reports that have exposed the potential for the production of raw materials that are used in everyday products such as smartphones, computers, or cars to be linked to serious human rights issues in one of the world’s poorest countries.

The issues are complex and there are no immediate quick fixes. Whilst companies that use cobalt cannot bear all of the responsibility for acting on the issues raised by reports such as this, act they must.

At Kumi we specialise in supporting the development of responsible mineral supply chains. We help companies to build pragmatic responses to challenging issues such as those raised in the Sky News feature.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to understand how Kumi can help you develop your approach to responsibly sourcing cobalt.
